29 Aug 2012 Thirtieth Anniversary of Allaama Mufti Jaffar Hussain Qibla Commemorated
Thirtieth (30th) death anniversary of Allama Mufti Jafar Hussain, a
great leader of Shia Muslims of Pakistan, being observed with
reverence and solemnity today.
He was born in Gujranwala, Punjab, in 1914. At the
age of only 12 years, he was expert in the disciplines of medicine,
hadees, fiqh (jurisprudence) and Arabic. He went to holy city of Najaf,
Iraq in 1935 where he studied for 5 years. His teachers included among
others Grand Ayatollah Syed Abul Hassan Isfahani.
Founder of
Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah sought advice of Allama Mufti Jafar
Hussain on Islamic affairs. Reports had it that he had consulted him and
tasked him to help the state of Pakistan on Islamic legal matters.
Mufti
Jafar Hussain was founder of Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqh-e-Jafaria that later
renamed as Tehrik-e-Jafaria Pakistan. Under his dynamic leadership,
Shiites of Pakistan had staged a historic sit-in outside Parliament
House Islamabad during the tenure of Martial Law dictator Gen. Zia ul
Haq which resulted in immediate withdrawal of forced laws of Zakat deduction and other curriculum related issues.
He led Shiites and Pakistani nation at a time when nobody
else had the courage to challenge the brutal regime of Martial Law
dictator. He passed away on August 29, 1982.
