Light for Life distributed Relief Item near Sialkot
Sialkot is a city situated in the north-east of the Punjab province in Pakistan at the feet of the snow-covered peaks of Kashmir near the Chenab River. Formerly, Sialkot has been the winter-capital of the State of Kashmir. The city is about 125 km (78 mi) north-west of Lahore and only a few kilometers from Jammu in India.
Over 15,000 acres of land had been inundated due to overflowing of seasonal nullahs and continuous torrential rains in Sialkot district recently. As many as 167 villages and 250 houses had also been damaged in recent rains and flood across the district.
About 34 persons died and 30 people injured in rain and flood-related incidents in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district. More than 112 roads and 83 schools have also been damaged in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district.
Similarly, 80,000 animals are also inculcated in flood-stricken areas so far in four tehsils of the district.
The flooded Aik, Palkhu and Bhed nullahs submerged the Sialkot city. The city streets were under three to four feet water and 725,000 cusecs flood passed through the Marala head works in the River Chenab.
Rising to the call of duty,Light for Life Welfare organization started its relief activities for humanitarian assistance in Tehsil Sialkot, Tehsil Daska, Tehsil Pasrur, Tehsil Sambrial on 3rd ,4th and 5th October 2014.
The volunteering team comprised of five members of the Light for Light welfare organization's local structure. Relief goods worth nearly Rs. 1 lac were distributed in the grief stricken, 80 people of the mentioned areas. The distributed item included 10 kilogram wheat bag, Three kilograms rice bag, two kilogram sugar bag, two kilogram cooking oil, two kilogram gram pulse and an energy saver light.
The relief goods were distributed keeping in view the limited resources of the newly launched LFL and with the financial assistance of the philanthropists.
